About

Limbo Messiah is the fifth studio album by Beatsteaks, being the most difficult album for them to record. Not only was it delayed by work on the DVD B-Seite, which the band personally designed, but also by infighting between the members of the band. Despite the hardships, the album went straight to third place in the german album charts and brought the band its highest position in the music charts to date. Like Smack Smash, the album was recorded live, mostly in Hamburg, as the studio favored by the band in Berlin was occupied. The lyrics of the songs derive from things frontman Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß wrote in his notebook for the past 2 years.

About the album's title drummer Thomas Götz said: "We always thought Limbo Messiah, that sounds funny. And little by little we discovered more and more meanings, because Limbo can mean very different things: on the one hand the dance Limbo, then Limbo is also a computer language, and last but not least the first circle of hell, where children are punished with boredom , referred to as limbo. We just thought, everything would be great, sounds great, sounds funny." Overall, the sound on Limbo Messiah is a bit darker than on the previous Smack Smash, but also more varied. Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß himself said about the album: “It is not as sunny as Smack Smash, it's definitely more aggressive, almost bitchy sometimes. We have never done anything like this in our cosmos before.” The first single on the album, released on March 9th 2007, was Jane Became Insane, its music video landing on the front ranks of the MTV Total Request Live charts. The second single, Cut Off the Top, was released on June 29th 2007. The single Demons Galore was released on October 5th 2007 in the form of an EP. The last single of the album was Meantime.
