About
Beatsteaks is the self-titled seventh studio album by the Beatsteaks. It was released on August 1, 2014.
After drummer Thomas Götz suffered a fractured skull while falling down stairs in August 2012, it was unclear for a long time whether the band could continue playing as before. Because Götz recovered soon, the accident did not mean an abrupt end of the band, but according to singer Arnim it changed the way the band saw themselves: "We suddenly finally realized how everything is and how lucky we are. [...] Accordingly, today we are more relaxed. I think you can clearly hear this freedom in the songs" he said in an interview. The band started rehearsing a day before their secret concert at Rock am Ring 2013, taking them only 10 days to record the album. They spent such little time recording the album that the band decided to not spend that much time on the album's name either, deciding to name it after the band. The cover was originally just part of a promo photoshoot, however the band liked it so much they made it the album cover. The album starts with the lyric "good morning" and ends with the lyric "good night".
The first single from the album is Gentleman of the Year . A video for the song was posted on YouTube on June 26, 2014 . This was followed by Make A Wish, which was released on September 26, 2014 as a 7-inch vinyl single with 4 extra tracks, and Everything Went Black, for which Pfadfinderei, a Berlin-based design and motion graphics studio, created a video which was published on YouTube on November 14, 2014.
