Hand In Hand

Hand in Hand was the last song they wrote for Smack Smash. In fact, the song was composed so late, the demo doesn't even feature any vocals.

The instrumental took the longest to record out of all Smack Smash songs. The vocals, however, were done in just 2 takes. After Arnim's legendary performance, the band sat down to listen to Hand in Hand's isolated vocal track, which is something that has never happened prior to it.

The single version of Hand in Hand features a drum solo that the album version doesn't have. This is due to producer Moses Schneider choosing a faster take after the second chorus, which bothered Thomas.

[Verse 1]

She follows me down to where I go

She comes in a cloud but she don't know

She walks in a haze, do we get up

Before it ever gets too late?

Hand in hand we walk on down

The alley and our common ground

We walk in a haze, do we pass out

Before we ever know it's on?

[Chorus]

She ain't never gonna get wise

She ain't never gonna get wise

She ain't never gonna get wise

And I feel better with my hands tied

[Verse 2]

She follows me down to where I go

Not pulling a chain, not feeling low

Don't wake me up, I can't relate

To any other song today

Hand in hand we walk along

The alley and our common ground

I walk in a haze, why should I care?

I'm waiting out the days go anywhere

Oh
