Me Against The World
Me Against The World was ex-bassist Ali's favourite song on 48/49. He's not the only Beatsteaks bassist to like this song; this song was one of two that Torsten would regularly play live with the band prior to joining the band, as he used to be one of their roadies.Â
It is also the last song to feature a live performance of both Ali and ex-drummer Steffi. During their Living Targets record release show in 2002, they would both go up the stage and play only this song one final time together. The song was played very rarely throughout 2004, making a surprise comeback for two shows in 2018 before being abandoned again.
[Verse 1]
Woke up this morning, it's the same old thing:
Brother against brother, it's a normal thing
I see the government's corrupt, I see the homeless on the streets
And the rich get richer and the poor get hungry
No respect for human life
No respect for mother earth
And you're still asking me
Why I'm so bitter, so bitter and angry?
[Chorus]
This is me against the world
This is me against the whole wide world
This is me against the world
This is me against the whole wide world
[Verse 2]
I go to bed, it's the same old thing:
Brother against brother, it's a normal thing
I see the government's corrupt, I see the homeless on the streets
And the rich get richer and the poor get hungry
No respect for human life
No respect for mother earth
And you're still asking me
Why I'm so bitter, so bitter and angry?
